a boy and girl on opposite ends of the continent send polaroids with handwritten messages in the mail. the pictures used to arrive with postmarks stamped on the back, but now they have to be in envelopes. some of them got lost on the way.

postmarks is the creation of ben and charlie (ch.), two friends who have never actually met. in 2002 they started sending these photographs back and forth, eventually documenting them as a livejournal. the idea was to have a sort of polaroid pen-pal, but to the surprise of them both, the project soon developed quite a following.

ben is currently living in baltimore, maryland.

ch. is currently living in oakland, california.

many polaroid cameras have been used in this exchange, but two are favored: ben uses a polaroid slr 680, and ch. uses a polaroid sx-70 sonar one step.
